Review of THE CHILDREN'S BOOK
I was highly encouraged when I began this book by A.S. Byatt. It seemed original, ready to engage the reader and be one of those books that satisfied fully. Sadly, this was not so. There were too many characters to keep track. I like complicated, but complicated has to lead somewhere. This did not. Near the end, the history [inserted to help the reader get a sense of the time period] seemed to take over. It began to read like a dry textbook. People, plots, places...much was left hanging. It's good enough to be worth a read, but not good enough to be placed high on my list.
